The mediator is in charge of organizing the debate. Deciding where to make new subdebates, when to ask debaters to define words, etc. The ideal mediator is somebody who is not necessarily as versed in a particular topic, but is particularly able to dissect arguments, and is familiar with Argument Clinic's process.

Each debate has two debaters, each representing the opposing views. Limiting the number of debaters to two makes it much more feasible to focus the discussion.

Supporters help the debaters by feeding them suggested arguments, sources, etc, that the debater may not have otherwise thought of. The posts are separate from the main debate posts, allowing for more points to be considered, without risking sidetracking the debate.
